With music as the medium of engagement, Messenger is a fluid, interdisciplinary exploration of the cultures of Camerata Pacifica’s performers and composers.

Camerata Pacifica’s Principal Artists, who represent the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Korea and Armenia, have commissioned music from composers of Northern Ireland, China, Russia & Japan. These new works will be premiered in Southern California between 2010 and 2013, and then toured to the Messenger countries.

While the commissioned works provide the foundation for Messenger, the scope of the project reaches far beyond music, and is continually evolving and endless. As the ensemble journeys towards the premiere performances, music of the featured composers and countries will be performed in current seasons, and events will be presented highlighting other aspects of these deeply rich cultures. Agencies and experts from other disciplines will be engaged as partners to offer insight into their special areas of interest, the first being The Fowler Museum at UCLA which, in 2011, will present an exhibition of contemporary Korean ceramics and in 2010 an exhibition on the history of tea. Messenger is a comprehensive, holistic celebration of the diverse cultural heritage of Camerata Pacifica’s artistic constituency.
